Regarding 'excellence of basis', formerly called 'bodily unexcelledness': in the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa, the bodhi of various śrāvakas is attained even relying on an incomplete [body], and the bodhi of pratyekabuddhas may be attained relying on any body, up to a body with thirty-one marks, but is never attained relying on a body complete with the thirty-two marks. The bodhi of a Buddha alone is attained relying fully on a body adorned with the thirty-two marks; hence it is called 'excellence of basis'.
