Furthermore, according to the meditation section in fascicle 43 below, it is the same as this: although companionship is twofold, they are combined as the first. If divided into two, there would be twelve marks. Therefore, one knows that companionship is combined as one. If one relies on the old Bodhisattvabhūmi, it contains the counts from one, two, up to eleven, and the same is true in the previous brief [summary]. In the previous explanation of the brief [summary], the reason for the difference between the two treatises has already been reconciled. Now, here, according to the old Bodhisattvabhūmi, the eleven are: from 'all bodhisattvas are companions to sentient beings in their various undertakings' downward is the first; 'and are also companions in rescuing from suffering' downward is the second. That is, within the previously stated first, it is divided into two. The second [numbering] combines the previous fourth and fifth together as the fifth single mark. In the Bodhisattvabhūmi's previous brief explanation there was already such an opening and closing difference; its detailed explanation is identical with the brief text. Now, if one follows fascicle 43 below, companionship in undertakings and rescuing from suffering form two headings.
