先知有情若體若性者，舊地持云：若性，自性。遠法師解：若性者，有共住性。自性者，無共住性。有自行性已，隨諸有情同住同行。

First, 'knowing sentient beings, whether their substance or their nature': the old Bodhisattvabhūmi states, 'whether their nature or their intrinsic nature.' Master Yuan explains: 'nature' means having a nature capable of dwelling together; 'intrinsic nature' means having a nature incapable of dwelling together. Having one's own nature of practice, one dwells together and acts together following all sentient beings.
