Below, adapting is explained in detail with seven phrases. The first phrase has three: first, it explains that bodily and vocal actions manifested by the bodhisattva that produce sorrow and suffering in others are stopped if unbeneficial, but performed if beneficial. Next, it explains that bodily and vocal actions manifested by the bodhisattva in others' affairs that produce sorrow and suffering in other sentient beings are stopped if unbeneficial, but performed if beneficial. Finally, it explains that bodily and vocal actions manifested by the bodhisattva in one's own affairs that produce sorrow and suffering in others are stopped if not included in the precepts and not concordant with merit and wisdom, but performed if concordant. As with producing sorrow and suffering in others, producing joy and pleasure is also thus. The above deals with producing suffering or pleasure in others, having adapting and non-adapting.
