According to the Fanwang jing, ten major offenses are fully explained; this treatise omits the first six. Formerly they were called pārājika, meaning these six cannot live together [with the Saṃgha]. The Tripiṭaka Master says: the correct Sanskrit is pārājayika, which is translated as 'dharmas entailing defeat'; if one violates these precepts, one is defeated by another. These four dharmas entailing defeat encompass the three aggregates of precepts.
