基云：竪通三界名遍忍，橫潤四生是普忍。又總通有情是遍忍，通怨親是普忍，如是無量分別。

Ji says: Extending vertically throughout the three realms is called pervasive patience; extending horizontally to moisten the four forms of birth is universal patience. Furthermore, applying generally to sentient beings is pervasive patience, and applying to both enemies and kin is universal patience. There are immeasurable distinctions of this kind.
