Under satisfying requests: four means being free from the four faults of speech; eight kinds of truthful speech are called the eight noble speeches (āryavāc). Tai states: Concerning 'relying on the four pure speeches, the eight noble speeches': when actually seeing, saying one saw when asked by another; when actually not seeing, saying one did not see when asked by another; these two are subsumed under the lack of both conception and object. Saying one saw when not seeing, and saying one did not see when actually seeing; these two accord with appearances while eliminating the object; these four are noble speech. As for non-noble speech: saying one saw when actually seeing, saying one did not see when actually not seeing; these two contradict conception while according with the object. Saying one did not see when actually seeing, and saying one saw when actually not seeing; these two contradict both object and conception; these four are ordinary speech. Ji states: 'Satisfying requests has' means not taking the four pure ones, but taking the latter eight of seeing and so forth.
