基云：何以唯此八者，謂障三學等故，無慚無愧二障戒，惛眠二障定或慧，掉舉惡作二障慧或定，嫉慳二總障三學，故不說餘，或可是八纏。

Ji says: "Why are there only these eight? Because they obstruct the three trainings and so forth: shamelessness and lack of conscience, these two, obstruct morality; torpor and sleepiness, these two, obstruct concentration or wisdom; restlessness and regret, these two, obstruct wisdom or concentration; jealousy and stinginess, these two, obstruct the three trainings altogether. Therefore, no others are stated; or perhaps these are the eight entanglements."
