Tai says: "The first clause: there is a bodhisattva whose virtues and power are completely equal with many bodhisattvas; on the bodhisattva path, he either gives rise to overweening pride and considers himself a teacher, or actually receives the rank of teacher; the remaining sentient beings must conceal their own goodness and therefore do not display their own virtues and power to resemble the teacher, but because their actions and karmas are identical, they are called 'another's common task-sharer'; because they conceal their own goodness, they do not display themselves to share common tasks with others. The second clause: in order to convert dogs and so forth, they are born among dogs and so forth, but they do not practice canine behavior together with dogs; this is called 'not another's common task-sharer,' but by displaying themselves as born there, it is called 'displaying oneself to share common tasks with others.' The third clause: bodhisattvas see that the roots of virtue cultivated by those to be converted are not steadfastly established, so they manifest to cultivate together with them to make them steadfastly established; or it means cultivating similar virtues or superior virtues together with them. The fourth clause is easily understood."
