第二病人喻者，明教應機也。前喻；後合。喻中，有六：一者、應機感聖喻；二者、聞教轉執喻；三者、勸聞勝法喻；四者、前執不捨喻；五者、說教淺深喻；六者、愚人未解喻。合中，有三：初合前第五喻，亦可通合前五；次合第六喻；後因辨淨信。

Regarding the second, the simile of the sick person: it clarifies the teaching responding to capacities. First is the simile, and afterward the application. Within the simile, there are six: 1. The simile of responding to capacity and moving the sage; 2. The simile of hearing the teaching and shifting attachments; 3. The simile of encouraging the hearing of superior teachings; 4. The simile of not relinquishing former attachments; 5. The simile of teaching according to shallowness and depth; 6. The simile of the foolish person not understanding. In the application, there are three: First, applying to the fifth simile above (which can also generally apply to the first five); next, applying to the sixth simile; afterward, clarifying pure faith in consequence.
