哀愍自性有二：一、在意樂者，則利樂；二、意樂為性，依莊嚴論，以思欲樂。依攝論，以欲及勝解二數為性。

The intrinsic nature of compassion has two aspects: first, residing in the intention, which takes the intention to benefit and bring joy as its nature; according to the *Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra*, it takes the joy of thinking and desiring [the good of others as its nature]; according to the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*, it takes the two mental factors of desire and resolute intention as its nature.
