出家菩薩。而能行鉤鎖梵行者，基云：鉤鎖意取相拘礙義，出家之人有所禁約防惡三業，故如鉤鎖，在家菩薩則不如是也。

Regarding "the renunciant bodhisattva being able to practice the celibate life (brahmacarya) like linked chains": Ji states that "linked chains" conveys the sense of mutual restriction and constraint. A person who has left home has prohibitions and vows to guard against evil in the three modes of karma; hence they are like linked chains. The householder bodhisattva is not like this.
