住者何義,即因十二位能有住有為無為菩薩住中故名為住,此中廣明故名住品,前未廣明菩薩眾行,行必依位,是故意樂品後,則明住品。
What is the meaning of "abiding"? It means that, by cause of the twelve stations, there can be abidings within the conditioned and unconditioned bodhisattva abidings; hence they are called "abidings." Because it is broadly explained here, it is called the "Chapter on Abidings." Previously, the manifold practices of the bodhisattva were not broadly explained; practices must depend upon stages, and therefore following the "Chapter on Intention," the "Chapter on Abidings" is explained.
