泰云：種姓有二：一、性種姓，謂無始凡夫有大乘姓者亦造無間斷善；二、習種姓，謂在十信前發菩提心及十信位，今明習種姓，故性離麁垢。

Tai states: Gotra is twofold: first, the gotra of nature, meaning that beginningless ordinary beings who possess the Mahāyāna gotra also commit uninterrupted karma and sever wholesome roots; second, the gotra of habituation, referring to generating the bodhicitta prior to the ten faiths as well as in the stage of the ten faiths. Here it explains the gotra of habituation, which is why it is by nature free from coarse defilements.
