勝解行住，所作狹小者，遠法師云：趣行局少故名狹，不能常行故名缺，行心不賢故具不定，逢緣便失故具有退。

Regarding "the abiding of resolute conduct having a narrow and small sphere of action": Master Yuan states that because the practice directed toward it is limited and small, it is called "narrow"; because one cannot constantly practice it, it is called "deficient"; because the practicing mind is not yet fully virtuous, it possesses indeterminacy; and because one loses it as soon as encountering conditions, it possesses retrogression.
