Third, explaining the causes for eliminating the five fears. Herein, it first explains freedom from the five fears, and then the causes of freedom from fear. Further, in explaining the abandonment of the remaining afflictions: cultivating the wisdom of non-self abandons attachment to self; and [cultivating] freedom from attachment to the requisites of life eliminates the fear of lack of livelihood, etc. This text explains that the fear of lack of livelihood is counteracted by the wisdom of non-self; thus, one should know that self-view, attachment, and the like are conventionally posited as fear.
