From "these bodhisattvas" onward is the third part, which clarifies the elimination of the four calamities, previously named "leaving the four afflictions." Master Jing says: The Daśabhūmika-sūtra explains three analogies: 1. the analogy of the attainment of cessation; 2. the analogy of waking from a dream; 3. the analogy of being born in the Brahma heaven. Now, the four kinds of calamities elucidated here are the faults abandoned in those analogies. The first two are the faults abandoned in the analogy of the attainment of cessation: the first corresponds to the analogy of the attainment of cessation, applied as "dwelling in the maturation of action accomplished"; the second corresponds to the phrase "leaving behind the undertakings of body, speech, and mind"; the third corresponds to the second analogy, applied as "from the beginning onward, seeing all sentient beings falling into the four great rivers, generating great vigor, and extensively practicing the path until reaching the Immovable Stage, whereupon one abandons all notions and effortful practices, etc."; the fourth corresponds to the third analogy, applied as "not even a thought of all Buddhas, a thought of bodhisattvas, or a thought of nirvāṇa operates, much less would a worldly thought operate."
