於一切種成大法師者，地經云：菩薩住善慧地中，略說作大法師，住在大法師，深妙義中護諸佛法藏。論釋是中說者持者二句示現。住在大法師深妙義中者有二十種能作法師事：一、時；二、正意；三、頓；四、相續；五、漸；六者、次；七、句義漸次；八、示；九、喜；十、勸；十一、具德；十二、不毀；十三、不亂；十四、如法；十五、隨眾；十六、慈心；十七、安隱心；十八、憐愍心；十九、不著利養名聞；二十、不自讚毀他，乃至廣釋。

As for "in all ways becoming a great Dharma master," the Daśabhūmika Sūtra says: "When the bodhisattva dwells in the Stage of Good Intelligence (Sādhumatī-bhūmi), to state it briefly, he acts as a great Dharma master; dwelling in the profound and wonderful meaning of a great Dharma master, he protects the Dharma treasury of all Buddhas." The Commentary explains: within this, "the speaker" and "the holder" are two clauses shown. In "dwelling in the profound and wonderful meaning of a great Dharma master," there are twenty things that enable one to perform the duties of a Dharma master: 1. timely; 2. with right intention; 3. suddenly; 4. continuously; 5. gradually; 6. in proper order; 7. progressive sequence of words and meanings; 8. demonstrating; 9. rejoicing; 10. exhorting; 11. possessing virtue; 12. not disparaging; 13. not distracted; 14. in accordance with Dharma; 15. following the assembly; 16. with a mind of loving-kindness; 17. with a mind of security; 18. with a mind of compassion; 19. not attached to gain and fame; 20. not praising oneself and disparaging others; up to extensive explanation.
