Next, it clarifies the power of [knowing] realms (dhātu). It takes seeds and the realms of seeds as its object. Elsewhere, the distinctions of behavior such as greed are eighty-four thousand; here, speaking in round numbers, it says eighty thousand. The older treatise says eighty-four thousand behaviors. "If thus the entry gates to all destinies... up to... as extensively expounded in the Kālāma Sūtra and so forth": this clarifies that the power of [knowing] the paths leading to all destinies has four kinds of objects of knowledge: 1. knowing the practice of contemplation that accords with refuge; 2. knowing the practices of meritorious, non-meritorious, and immovable karma that lead to the five destinies; 3. knowing the practices of discordant views in which factions severally engage; 4. knowing all other distinctions of categories: the faultless practices leading to this world and other worlds, which means knowing the faultless practices of the three vehicles and those of indeterminate nature in the three periods of time that arise and proceed toward nirvāṇa.
