13.352

言當知爾時斷退故退者，伏斷故退。亦是住退者，由退起下，或有漏禪定不現前住，名為住退，即習行退。泰云：無學者下退滅定，不順此文也。

As for the statement "One should know that at that time there is retrogression due to abandoning": it is retrogression due to subduing and abandoning. "It is also retrogression in abiding": because of retrogression one gives rise to lower states, or because mundane dhyāna-samādhi does not abide manifest before one, it is called retrogression in abiding, which is retrogression in repeated practice. Tai says: "If a non-learner were to retrogress down from the cessation attainment, that would not accord with this text."
