第二對難釋通，文分有二。初通四相合為二相。言由未來生此是將生，現在正生滅中，現在將滅，過去正滅，故論生約將生，論滅約正滅，論亦互相顯，經中唯有生滅中，上座部以此證心唯有二相，色等亦有三相。

Second, resolving objections, the text is divided into two. First, resolving the combination of the four characteristics into two characteristics. Saying 'due to future arising' refers to being about to arise; while in the present, it is currently arising. In cessation, in the present it is about to cease, and in the past it has just ceased. Therefore, discussing arising concerns being about to arise, and discussing cessation concerns currently ceasing; the treatise also illustrates them reciprocally. In sūtras, there are only arising and cessation; the Sthaviras use this to prove that mind has only two characteristics, while form and so forth also have three characteristics.
