From here on, the third [section] answers with a broad differentiation of the meaning. Within this there are two parts: first, the verse and prose open and list the five characteristics; second, they explain them in sequence. In the former, first, the verse lists the five characteristics; second, the prose correlates them. The upper three lines list four characteristics, which overall are the saṃsāric flow of the ālaya; the lower line is overall the second, the cessation of the ālaya. In the prose correlation, first, it briefly opens into two; next, it lists the five characteristics individually. Establishing afflictions as existent corresponds to the line 'if paths exist, there is cessation,' which is the verse on establishing and on attaining nirvāṇa. In the sequential explanation, it first explains the characteristic of the transformation of the intentional object: first asking, next explaining, and afterwards summarizing and concluding.
