謂此經中略顯識住，及因緣相者，開一章，即牒前經有四依取以為所緣令識安住等。言識住因緣二種邊際者，開第二章，即牒前經乃至我終不說此識住於東方乃至四維。言識住因緣二種寂止者，開第三章，即牒前經然我唯說於現法中必離欲影寂滅寂靜清涼清淨。

The phrase "In this sūtra it briefly reveals the stations of consciousness and the characteristics of their causes and conditions" sets out the first chapter, which cites the previous sūtra: "There are four supports of grasping taken as intentional objects, causing consciousness to abide peacefully, etc." The phrase "the two kinds of limits of the causes and conditions of the stations of consciousness" sets out the second chapter, which cites the previous sūtra: "up to 'I never say this consciousness abides in the east or up to the four intermediate directions.'" The phrase "the two kinds of pacification of the causes and conditions of the stations of consciousness" sets out the third chapter, which cites the previous sūtra: "However, I only say that in this very life, one must be detached from desire, shadow, extinguished, peaceful, cool, and pure."
