The phrase "It should be known that herein, up to 'because there is an intentional object'" is the brief explanation. The Supplement says: "Afflictive events" are the events of manifest afflictions. "Belonging to those afflictions" are the latent seeds; because subsequent afflictions are perfumed by afflictions, they are said to "belong to afflictions." "Said to be based on grasping" refers to the sūtra previously cited. "It should be known that these two are also called intentional objects": manifest afflictions and seeds are the objective reliance for the four stations of consciousness, hence it says they are "also called intentional objects." The phrase "because of the nature of being an intentional object" means that the aforementioned manifest afflictions—the afflictive events—have the nature of cognitive apprehending, hence called having the nature of cognitive apprehending. The phrase "because there is an intentional object" means that these seeds of affliction possess the phenomena that are the intentional objects of manifest afflictions.
