Ji says: "Possessing form means possessing a body; formlessness means having no body. Being born in this place and dying in this very place explains that in the lower two realms, consciousness abides in four aggregates; in the formless realm above, it abides in only three aggregates. Furthermore, 'possessing form' means there is an intermediate existence (antarābhava); in the formless realm there is no intermediate existence, hence there is death and rebirth. If so, how can it say that these two abidings extend 'until life is exhausted'? The former explanation is superior. Furthermore, regarding 'these two abidings extend until life is exhausted': the consciousness of coming and going and the consciousness of death and rebirth constitute the two. This explains that a single demarcation of the station of consciousness has run out; hence it is called an 'extreme' (koṭi)."
