Ce says: As stated in the Abhiniṣkramaṇa Sūtra, before the Tathāgata achieved enlightenment, in the mathematics learned from Master Andaji, he questioned the master, saying: 'How many atoms are there in Jambudvīpa?' The versifying master replied: 'Calculation cannot express it.' He asked: 'How many dust particles form Mt. Yugandhara?' He answered: 'This also cannot be told; if it is like this, there is nothing further to learn.' Furthermore, the Lotus Sūtra says: 'worlds numbering beyond dust particles'; and the Acintya Sūtra says: 'all worlds enter a single dust particle.' Since the noble teachings are thus, for what reason is it said that atoms do not exist? The explanation says: The sūtras speak of existence based on the atoms that are objective aspects of the mental consciousness; the treatise speaks of non-existence in terms of the fundamental dharmas. Thus there is no contradiction.
