泰云：前論大持二種則大及造，此中一大能造根塵，何故不說持三種？解云：前據熏成種子故說持二種，今云種者唯地大中有可生大等種故名種，是故眼中餘無根種。

Tai says: In the previous treatise, an element maintains two kinds, namely elements and derived forms; here one element can produce sense bases and sense dusts, so why does it not say it maintains three kinds? The explanation says: Previously, it was spoken of as maintaining two kinds on the basis of perfuming to form seeds; here, 'seed' is named because only within the earth element are there seeds capable of generating the elements and so forth; hence within the eye there are no seeds of other sense bases.
