14.57

第三明男女二眾制戒多少。母邑者，正翻應云母村，西國呼女人為母，同村邑人也。沙彌十戒，故云少分。式叉十六，故多分也。

Under the third, explaining the number of precepts instituted for the two communities of men and women: 'Mātṛgrāma' should correctly be translated as 'mother-village'. In the Western countries, women are called 'mothers', as people of the same village. Novice monks have ten precepts, hence it says 'a lesser portion'. Śikṣamāṇās have sixteen, hence 'a greater portion'.
