14.69

初中，云若由自受等者，泰云：初自發心受；二、由他就受；三、從他師受；四、自淨心受不從師也。後二皆通前二，前二方便欲受時心，後二正發戒時也。

Under the first, regarding 'If from undertaking by oneself, etc.': Tai says: First, undertaking by generating the aspiration oneself; second, receiving by relying on another; third, receiving from a master who is another; fourth, receiving with one's own pure mind without relying on a master. The latter two both apply to the former two: the former two are the mind at the time of the expedient preparation when desiring to receive, while the latter two are the actual time the precepts are generated.
