Sixth, for the sake of guarding others: this is a difficulty. Regarding 'park-keeper': Tai says: The original pronunciation says saṃgha, translated here as park. This means that when the Buddha was in the world, the monks all cultivated the Path in parks beneath trees; now they are called ārāmika. The monks also resided in parks, building huts beneath each tree to dwell, and the park-keeper is what was formerly called a saṃghārāmika. If one builds monastery buildings to reside in, there is much heedlessness. Ji says: A park-keeper refers to one who guards the monastery gate. An explanation says: In Sanskrit, saṃgha is translated here as 'keeper', and ārāma is translated here as 'park'.
