Conventional truth, as stated in Fascicle 74, has four kinds: (1) conventional conventional truth, such as speaking of beds, seats, armies, forests, and vases, which are called conventional worldly things; (2) rational conventional truth, referring to the rational conventions of the aggregates, realms, sense fields, and so forth; (3) realized conventional truth, referring to the four fruitions of recluseship; (4) ultimate conventional truth, referring to the teaching of the non-self of persons, suchness, and so forth. Now here, it is based on rational conventional truth that it is conventional truth, because of the differentiation of intrinsic nature. By this standard, it should be understood that in the Western regions ultimate truth is also fourfold: (1) rational ultimate truth, referring to the principles of the aggregates and so forth, not tathatā; (2) realized ultimate truth, referring to the four fruitions of recluseship; (3) ultimate ultimate truth, referring to entering the true contemplation of tathatā of one taste; (4) conventional ultimate truth, referring to contemplating all as the aspect of suffering.
