十三、明因果義。景云：此問即同經部師難，知如牛二角俱時而有，相望非因果，眼根、眼識俱有，亦爾。此中答意，識依眼生，非如種滅芽生，何以故？眼與眼識非正生因，是故俱時因果猶如燈光。

Thirteenth, explaining the meaning of cause and effect. Jing says: This question is identical to the Sautrāntika objection: knowing that just as the two horns of an ox exist simultaneously, in relation to each other they are not cause and effect, so too are the eye faculty and the eye consciousness coexistent. The intention of the reply here is that consciousness arises based on the eye, but not like a seed perishing and a sprout arising. Why? Because the eye and eye consciousness are not the direct productive cause; therefore, cause and effect are simultaneous, just like a lamp and its light.
