一、有境無境門，泰、基同云：教理相對，教能詮理，理名為義，根境相對，根能取境，故境名義，二十一根各有義，除命根。

First is the section on having an object or lacking an object. Tai and Ji both say: Teaching and principle are contrasted: teaching can express principle, and principle is called 'meaning' (artha); faculty and object are contrasted: faculty can grasp object, so object is called 'meaning' (artha). Each of the twenty-one faculties has an object, excluding the life faculty.
