信根義，應得應捨者，應得善應捨惡也。精進於二種者，則應得應捨也。定根義止觀者，則取定慧所緣為義，亦可則緣定慧為義。慧根義所知真實者，景注云：緣理真實計亦緣事。今附明緣理名知真實。

The object of the faith faculty is what should be attained and what should be abandoned: that is, one should attain the good and abandon the evil. Energy regarding the two kinds: that is, what should be attained and what should be abandoned. The object of the concentration faculty is calm and insight: that is, it takes what is observed by concentration and wisdom as its object; it can also mean it takes concentration and wisdom as its cognitive object. The object of the wisdom faculty is the reality of the knowable: Master Jing's note says: Contemplating the reality of principle; it is thought that it also contemplates phenomena. Now, in accordance with the explanation, contemplating principle is called knowing reality.
