Third, distinguishing them in terms of the three karmas, which are distinguished here by contrasting wholesome and unwholesome, briefly omitting the indeterminate. Jing says: "The nine of wholesomely thinking what is thought are the five beginning with faith, the three taintless faculties, and the mind; one may also take the five faculties beginning with faith, the mind, joy, and pleasure, because connecting to the taintless they are able to think wholesomely. The ten of wholesomely speaking what is recorded add the grief faculty to the preceding nine, because a wholesome grief faculty is able to initiate speech. The sixteen of wholesomely doing what is done are the remaining sixteen faculties, excluding the five feeling faculties and the life faculty."
