Second, determining establishment: the six causes are sequentially matched with the six skills. Master Jing's disciple's commentary states: 'Cause' means reason. First, accumulation is the meaning of a body; knowing the accumulation of the conditioned establishes the aggregates. Second, knowing the seeds of the eye and so on establishes the realms. Third, knowing that faculties and objects are that which give rise to the collection of consciousnesses establishes the sense-bases. Fourth, knowing the conditions upon which ignorance and the like depend is called the means of bondage, establishing dependent origination. Fifth, knowing that pleasure arises from the wholesome is called the superior means, while pleasure arising from the unwholesome is called the inferior means, establishing what is possible and impossible. Sixth, knowing that the eye and so forth each possess the meaning of sovereign enjoyment establishes the faculties.
