八、明業業道相，思是業，非業道等者，備云：前云思上假說三業，然即思可亦業道，何故此中業非道耶？解云：前約真實理，謂善不善能得可愛不可愛等道果，故彼業即道也。今約世俗門故說非業道。

Eighth, clarifying the characteristics of karma and the paths of karma. Regarding 'Volition is karma, not a path of karma,' etc., Bei says: Earlier it was said that the three karmas are metaphorically designated upon volition; yet, volition can also be a path of karma. Why then is it said here that karma is not a path? The explanation says: Previously it was from the perspective of ultimate truth—namely, that wholesome and unwholesome can attain paths and fruitions such as the desirable and undesirable, and therefore that karma is itself the path. Now it is explained from the conventional gate, and hence it is said not to be a path of karma.
