In the first, the eleven constitute five pairs: 1. The pair of the non-directly visible and the directly visible: past and future are called non-directly visible, present is called directly visible; 2. The pair of the inferior, middling, and superior: meaning the desire, form, and formless realms; 3. The pair of beneficial and non-beneficial: meaning faultless and faulty; 4. The pair of the true and the deviant: the Three Jewels are called true, whereas postulating Īśvara, etc., is called deviant; 5. The pair of cause and fruition: meaning suffering and origin are the cause and fruition of saṃsāra, while cessation and the path are the cause and fruition of nirvāṇa.
