In the first part, Jing says: From 'Furthermore, relying on worldly threshold concentrations...' to '...observing the tranquility of the higher': this means that in the worldly threshold concentrations, whether in the preparatory path or the uninterrupted path, according as one subdues a grade, it may also be termed uninterrupted. If in the liberation path, cultivating either for subduing or for realizing virtues like supernormal powers within absorption, one contemplates the faults of the lower and the tranquility of the higher with respect to the cognitive object. In this path of six aspects, when subduing the afflictions of cultivation, there are also four paths. Regarding 'if in the path of superior progress...' to '...or with a taintless object': within the path of superior progress, it universally takes higher and lower as objects, and universally encompasses the two minds of delight and revulsion, termed pervasive cognitive objects. If a noble one initiates the worldly six aspects, they universally initiate the taintless within the path of superior progress; this text serves as retrospective proof.
