下明與七作意攝，第三作意斷上三品，第六作意斷下三品，並是無間道，攝樂作意斷中三品，亦是無間道，故通四道。第七作意在根本地，故略不說之。

Below, subsumption under the seven mental engagements is explained: The third mental engagement severs the upper three grades, and the sixth mental engagement severs the lower three grades—both are uninterrupted paths. The mental engagement of experiencing joy severs the middle three grades, and is also an uninterrupted path; hence they extend across the four paths. The seventh mental engagement resides in the fundamental stage, and so is omitted here.
