第五明進退速遲，即有四人。初人以煩惱下品故多念艱辛，方乃退定。善法下品，故多念艱辛方乃入定，中二可知。第四人者，如廣論說：天授速退速入。

Fifth, explaining the speed and slowness of progress and retrogression: there are four persons. The first person, because defilements are of inferior grade, retrogresses from meditative absorption only after many moments of hardship; because wholesome dharmas are of inferior grade, they enter meditative absorption only after many moments of hardship. The middle two may be known accordingly. As for the fourth person, as the Extensive Treatise says: 'Devadatta quickly retrogresses and quickly enters.'
