答:不也。以取明了境必現量故。若有別緣者則違集量論等五識同時意識是現量過量過,以散心位識不堅,五識不起則已。若起必同時,不同定中聞強盛境故耳識能緣,意識堅住一境故不與同緣。
Answer: 'No. Because apprehending a clear object must be direct perception. If it had a separate condition, it would contradict the fault of non-perception or over-extension in the Pramāṇasamuccaya and other texts concerning the mental consciousness occurring simultaneously with the five consciousnesses being direct perception. Because in the state of a distracted mind, consciousness is not firm; if the five consciousnesses do not arise, that is all, but if they do arise, they must be simultaneous. This is unlike in meditative absorption, where due to hearing a predominant object the ear-consciousness can apprehend it, while the mental consciousness remains firmly fixed on one object and therefore does not take the same object together with it.'
