This implicitly accords with fascicle fifty-seven and Vasubandhu's Mahāyānasaṃgrahabhāṣya, which state: taking future objects as condition and sustaining and benefiting consciousness is called mental volition as food, because mental volition's hope regarding objects is pre-eminent. Hence fascicle ninety-four states: if, in the mental stage, volition can meet an object, it is called volition meeting the mind, and can serve as food for all focused hope regarding desired objects. There is also another opinion: tainted volition associated with the six consciousnesses that hopes for objects and benefits the body is entirely the entity of volition as food; the seventh and eighth are not so, because they lack this cognitive aspect. The various texts only speak of that associated with the intellect because it universally conditions the future and is most prominent; there is also volition that hopes for present objects, so it is permitted to be common to the five consciousnesses.
