In the former part, it states: "Furthermore, corrupted abiding, giving rise to wrong effort, fruitless toil, and so forth are called phenomena that have causes." This means that non-Buddhists rely on wrong teachers, wrong teachings, and so on, which is called "corrupted abiding"; taking this as a cause, they give rise to wrong effort, fruitless toil, abiding in sorrow and suffering, and so on. Thus, wrong effort and the like are called "phenomena that have causes." Disciples of the Buddha's teaching rely on the Buddha's correct Dharma, which is called "relying on non-corrupted abiding"; they possess correct effort, fruitful toil, and abide in the arising of joy and bliss. Thus, correct effort and the like are called "phenomena that have causes."
