18.323

又世間道趣離欲，及能引發禪慮無色等者，此即義說世俗道，伏下地欲為引發因，得彼擇滅離繫之果。又由離欲引得根本靜慮無色，此等即說擇滅靜慮無色有因法。

Regarding "furthermore, the worldly path tending toward freedom from desire, and being able to induce dhyāna-contemplations, the formless [attainments], and so forth": this means conceptually speaking, the conventional path, by suppressing desire for the lower bhūmi, acts as an inducing cause to attain the fruit of analytical cessation and dissociation. Furthermore, through freedom from desire, it induces the fundamental dhyānas and formless attainments. These are spoken of as analytical cessation, dhyānas, and formless attainments being phenomena that have causes.
