Twenty-seventh: Explaining profound and hard-to-see dharmas. The meaning is that the individual characteristics of all dharmas are ineffable and therefore profound. Just as the individual characteristic of form is experienced solely by the eye-consciousness, and so on up to the characteristic of touch being experienced solely by the body-consciousness—just like drinking cold water, only the one who experiences it knows, and it cannot be spoken of; any description of its appearance does not match reality. Wishing to provide an expedient means to guide and receive [beings], when all dharmas are spoken of, only their common characteristics are explained. Just as when 'form' is spoken of, this designation 'form' marks all instances of form, and is therefore a common characteristic. It is likewise for sound and the rest. Therefore, dharmas of individual characteristics are ineffable.
