四、明二種證斷。一、於種子伏斷作證者，此文即說伏種令不生惑名伏煩惱，不伏現行此通凡聖；二、於種子永斷作證者此唯聖人。離繫亦二。一、於煩惱品別離繫者，斷煩惱體品品別斷；二、於煩惱事相屬離繫者，由斷煩惱所緣事，煩惱發業煩惱果報相屬之法并得離繫，以此將證於大乘義九品惑斷別得無為。

Fourth is explaining two kinds of realization of abandonment. First, regarding "making realization of the subduing and abandonment of seeds": this text speaks of subduing the seeds so that they do not generate defilements, which is called subduing defilements; this does not mean subduing active manifestations, and this applies to both ordinary beings and āryas. Second, regarding "making realization of the perpetual abandonment of seeds": this applies only to āryas. Freedom from bondage is also twofold: first, freedom from bondage according to the grades of defilements, where the substance of the defilements is severed separately grade by grade; second, freedom from bondage according to the associated conditions of defilements, where through severing the conditions taken as objects of defilements, the karma initiated by defilements and the retribution of defilements—the associated phenomena—all obtain freedom from bondage. Using this, it will corroborate the Mahāyāna doctrine that through severing the nine grades of defilements, one separately obtains unconditioned states.
