18.490

三、明五種支精進緣。一者、聞他宣說正法；二者、與修行者同共止住；三者、察勤怠德失德；四者、由文思擇故發正勤；五者、知前所證理，闇能證智劣知後所證理明知勝，由知所證前後差別故精進熾然。

Third is explaining the conditions for the five factors of vigor. First, hearing another person expound the correct Dharma; second, dwelling together with practitioners; third, examining the merits and faults of diligence and negligence; fourth, generating right diligence through reflection upon the texts; fifth, knowing that the principle realized previously is dark and the wisdom able to realize it is inferior, while knowing that the principle realized later is clear and the wisdom is superior; because of knowing the distinction between earlier and later realizations, vigor burns brightly.
