19.87

五十四明佛教差別及理趣。一、長時教者，如小乘教漸次化導也；二、無間教者，謂大乘頓教，如華嚴等成道初說也；三、不重說教者，謂如涅槃了義之教也。

The fifty-fourth [topic] explains the distinctions and principles of the Buddha's teachings. First is the long-term teaching, like the Hinayana teaching that guides and transforms gradually; second is the uninterrupted teaching, meaning the sudden teaching of the Mahayana, such as the Avataṃsaka, which was spoken first upon attaining the Way; third is the teaching that is not repeated, meaning a teaching of definitive meaning like the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra.
