The fifty-fifth [topic] explains the five metaphors of remedies for traveling a road and the two aspects of morality capable of proceeding to good destinies. 'Traveling a road' illustrates the practitioner traveling through saṃsāra to reach nirvāṇa. The remedy for blazing light: when afflicted by the distress and heat of blazing light, a parasol serves as the remedy, illustrating that when wrong wisdom arises, the noble teachings serve as the remedy. Second is the remedy for dangers: in dangerous passes with many bandits, weapons are needed as a remedy, illustrating that in the evil destinies with many perils, moral conduct serves as protection. Third is the remedy for rivers: for those crossing rivers, a boat or raft is what one relies on, illustrating that on the vast waters of craving, prajñā serves as the boat. Fourth is the remedy for exhaustion: for an exhausted person, broth serves as the remedy, illustrating that when scorched by the thirst of distraction, concentration serves to expand. Fifth is the remedy for physical fatigue: for one who is physically weary and exhausted, massage and riding vehicles serve as remedies, illustrating that heavy weariness is remedied by pliancy.
